Russia finds radioactive isotopes in test samples after accident: Ifax

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia’s state weather agency said on Monday it had found the radioactive isotopes of strontium, barium and lanthanum in test samples after an accident during a rocket engine test in northern Russia this month, Interfax news agency reported.

A cloud of radioactive inert gases formed as a result of the decay of the isotopes and caused the brief spike in radiation that was registered in the city of Severodvinsk following the accident, the weather agency was quoted as saying.
