Ras Al Khaimah Surpasses Dubai in Best Cities for Expats

Ras Al Khaimah has emerged as a leader in global expat rankings, surpassing Dubai in recent surveys evaluating the best cities for expatriates to live. This achievement highlights the Emirate's rising appeal for expats, who increasingly find it a desirable location to settle due to its unique balance of quality of life, affordability, and ease of integration.

The city ranked highly in multiple categories, including ease of settling in, personal finance, and quality of life. According to the Expat City Ranking survey, Ras Al Khaimah stands out for its high percentage of expats who reported no significant barriers to obtaining a visa, with 78% of expats finding the process smooth. This is notably higher than the global average, which stands at 57%. Additionally, Ras Al Khaimah topped the Expat Essentials Index, a category that measures how easy it is for newcomers to establish themselves in a new country.

Compared to Dubai, which is often regarded as a hub for global professionals, Ras Al Khaimah offers more affordable living options, with 68% of expats citing ease in finding and affording housing—an attractive feature for many newcomers. The cost of living, particularly in terms of housing and daily expenses, tends to be lower in Ras Al Khaimah, making it an appealing alternative for expats who seek a more balanced lifestyle without sacrificing modern amenities or access to job opportunities.

The local government’s commitment to building a welcoming environment for expats, under the leadership of Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, has also been key to Ras Al Khaimah’s growing reputation. Expats have praised the government's proactive measures to improve infrastructure, create economic opportunities, and maintain safety and social stability, which have all contributed to the city’s positive rankings in expatriate surveys.

Ras Al Khaimah's appeal is also bolstered by its natural beauty, which offers residents a blend of scenic mountains, beaches, and outdoor recreational activities. This unique setting contrasts with Dubai’s bustling urban environment, providing a quieter, more serene alternative for those seeking a slower pace of life while still being within reach of the UAE's vibrant economic and cultural hubs.

While Dubai remains a key player for expatriates in the region, Ras Al Khaimah’s recent rise in the rankings signals a shift towards more diversified expat living options within the UAE. Expats are increasingly considering a range of cities based not only on career prospects but also on lifestyle factors such as housing affordability, community integration, and access to outdoor activities.
