Meta, Startupbootcamp Ignite AI Revolution in MENA
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – August 1, 2024 – Meta, a global technology leader building technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses, and Startupbootcamp, a leading startup accelerator supporting over 1,600 successful startups, have joined forces to ignite an AI revolution in the MENA region. The partnership aims to accelerate AI adoption and innovation in the region, which is projected to generate up to $320 billion by 2030.
To achieve this, Meta and Startupbootcamp have launched the Llama Design Drive, a program designed to address key business challenges in the MENA region by leveraging Meta’s open-source Llama 3.1 Large Language Model (LLM). The initiative will foster collaboration between established companies and AI startups, bridging the gap between the two and driving homegrown innovation.
The Llama Design Drive will consist of three four-week sprints across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, providing intensive capacity-building workshops and mentorship to participating startups. Strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as RTA, Chalhoub Group, and Dubai Holding will offer real-world challenges for startups to tackle using AI-powered solutions.
By providing access to Llama 3.1, the program empowers startups to develop innovative products addressing critical challenges in mobility, aviation, energy distribution, retail, and real estate. This collaboration creates a win-win situation, as startups gain invaluable experience working with established companies and access to advanced AI technology, while corporations benefit from co-created solutions to their most pressing problems.
Startups selected for the program will have the opportunity to be fast-tracked into a global Meta program, with the potential to receive up to $500,000 for further product development.
“Our program not only promotes AI adoption but also facilitates connections between startups, corporates, and industry experts,” said Ibrahim “Abe” Seksek, CEO MENA at Startupbootcamp. “We are excited to empower the next generation of AI innovators in the region.”
“Llama Design Drive demonstrates the power of open-source collaboration in driving meaningful AI solutions,” said Joulan Abdul Khalek, Policy Programs Manager, Africa Middle East and Turkiye at Meta. “We are committed to cultivating a thriving AI community in the MENA region.”
With the MENA region poised to become a major AI player, the Llama Design Drive is well-positioned to contribute to the region’s economic growth and technological advancement.
