Coursera Unveils GenAI Features to Enhance Learning in UAE

Coursera has launched a suite of GenAI-powered features aimed at enhancing the authenticity and verification of learning experiences. This initiative is part of Coursera's broader strategy to address challenges posed by AI-assisted academic dishonesty and to improve the overall learning environment.

The new GenAI features include AI-based Viva Exams, AI Peer Reviews, and personalized tutors through the Coursera Coach. AI-based Viva Exams dynamically generate custom follow-up questions to test the authenticity and critical thinking behind students' submissions. This feature allows educators to conduct viva-style exams, providing detailed analysis and ensuring the integrity of student work.

AI Peer Reviews facilitate peer feedback with AI-powered insights, improving the quality of feedback, increasing rigor, and reducing wait times for grades. In a pilot program, 97% of surveyed Coursera Plus learners preferred AI grading over traditional peer grading. Coursera Coach offers interactive learning assistance, lecture summaries, and pre-assessment reviews, enhancing the learning experience through guided practice and personalized tutoring.

Additionally, Coursera has launched the Generative AI Academy in the UAE, designed to equip executives and employees with essential AI skills. This academy offers foundational literacy and executive education programs from top institutions like Stanford Online, Vanderbilt University, DeepLearning.AI, and Google Cloud. The initiative aligns with the UAE's focus on AI as a key driver of economic growth, with AI adoption expected to contribute significantly to the country's GDP by 2030.

The Generative AI Academy provides a range of courses, including "Generative AI for Everyone," "AI Awakening," and "Navigating Generative AI: A CEO Playbook." These courses are designed to help leaders develop a deep understanding of AI's applications and market influence, guiding them in making strategic and ethical decisions.

Coursera's efforts to enhance academic integrity and provide high-quality AI education aim to prepare the UAE's workforce for an AI-driven future. The new GenAI features and the Generative AI Academy represent significant steps towards bridging the AI skills gap and fostering innovation and productivity in the region.
